“Yet bizarrely, the man who for decades has been a symbol of unapologetic American excess is now defending his tariff policies by making a case against abundance.
When confronted with the reality that, should his tariffs go fully into effect, Americans will no longer have access to low-priced goods that are currently being imported, Trump is now arguing that children are going to have to get used to having less.”
nothing better than the editors of the National review raking Trump
over the coals on his insane tariff ideas.
the tariff rollouts are insane and no one of any import is willing to talk some sense into our POTUS.
i guess the National review will be accused of TDS in this forum.
While there are no doubt parents who sympathize with the idea that kids don’t need more plastic junk from China, there is no reason why the president should be telling parents what their kids do and do not need.
Obviously a highly partisan screed. But I thought the above kind of summarized the overall tone of the article. Trump wasn’t telling parents what their kids do and do not need. He was simply offering his opinion.
Who really has 30 dolls and 150 pencils. He was speaking in hyperbole while expressing an opinion. Not surprisingly, LIBs found yet another opportunity to froth at the mouth.
The NR editors are vehemently anti-Trump. Your OP article demonstrates that in spades. It is very much a highly partisan (or in this case anti-Trump) screed.
Liberals (and certainly leftists) have some sincere policy goals and principles that align with less consumerism; so do actual conservatives.
In contrast, the current GOP seems to have no principles other than a passion for regressive tax cuts plus whatever trolls the right people, punches downward, and allows Trump to throw darts and then draw bullseyes around them.
So it’s not that he’s hurting our economy, helping to make stuff more expensive, and otherwise ■■■■■■■ things up with sloppy, haphazard tariffs that he keeps lying about. That’s impossible. He can’t fail. Ever. Instead, your kids need to change in line with the new “reality” he’s created. It’s good for them, see? If there’s a problem, it’s on their end (and yours), not Trump’s.
Meanwhile, he’s packing the WH with tchotchkes and gold bric-a-brac, planning an expensive parade for himself, and otherwise bring the crass materialist he’s always been.
Why is trolling always your go to? Trump actually said these things… and you are dismissive because of your own Trumpsplaining… not based on his actual words AND actual context
It’s like people are just now figuring out the ultra rich, regardless of ideology and party, live a whole different style of life than us regular folk and they generally don’t understand any of our concerns.
“Don’t you understand you’re killing the environment?! Why don’t you just go buy an EV and get rid of that gas stove!?”
“Sir, I can’t even afford to go out and buy a 25 year old Tahoe right now. Much less some overpriced EV. And my current stove works just fine, why would I go spend thousands of dollars I don’t have to replace it for no reason? I only replace that kind of ■■■■ when it breaks to a level where I can’t fix it anymore.”
