Med tech is advancing at a furious rate and especially in the Bio Gen world.

Structurally this is very similar to MERS and SARS for which they’ve already developed safe and effective vaccines which makes it a much shorter road to a finished product.

With the expedited approval process all they really have to do is get a pool of volunteers to take the vaccine and be monitored for a few weeks with regular titer counts done. If they are within acceptable limits safety wise and the titers show it’s effective they’ll go into full production pretty quickly.

Here’s to hoping, but I wouldn’t set expectations too high on the vaccination front yet. There will be a lot more effort put into developing one than Ebola though.

This is the 2nd day where more cases were announced outside of China than inside, and apparantly a woman in Japan appears to have caught it a 2nd time. Neither bodes particularly well.

Oh I absolutely agree. When I was a kid my mom never took us to the doctor. I would get sore throats my tonsils would get infected and then she’s just make us take baby aspiring, the yummy orange flavored chewables, then we’d have to stay under a blanket (usually more like three) and sweat it out. To this day, I never get sick, except for the occasional sinus infection due to a deviated septum. I believe it was because of how my mom nursed us back to health…good old fashioned doctoring. Sweat it out. Today people feel bad…Doc give me an antibiotic…

That doesn’t work all the time.

Same here except I came down with strep at least three times a year for many years.

Which, I now know affects your heart.

Every report I have seen is 12-18 months, which is already incredibly fast in respect to any other vaccine.

Oh i’m not personally worried at all, i’m not anywhere near the risk group.

But i’m more pessimistic about our long-term prospects. I think our chance at containing it in China is past, or we’re just about to pass it.

And the economic hit is going to be a nasty one.

We may actually be better off having no one in charge

Honestly, what we need is for the CDC to be able to hold a press conference without political appointees or elected officials hovering over them. Tell the truth, the whole truth. Unvarnished. No spin. We need to make sure the public is adequately prepared for what may happen. Japan just cancelled all school for the entire next month. This could have serious impact on the day-to-day lives of Americans, as the CDC originally warned. And that the Trump presser tried to downplay and contradicted them. It is incredibly dangerous what they are doing.

What you are saying, between the lines, is the we need a credible source of information. This is where the constant barrage of alternative facts from the Trump Administration is damaging to our country. When we need believable information we have to listen to a 70 year old version of the boy who cried wolf.

And you can find information on your own as it becomes available and make your own decisions.

For instance, it was initially thought to come from the Wuhan market. We now know that isn’t the case.

So, post what you think is interesting and ask for feedback. There is one hell of a lot of talented and informed people on this board.
