Trump Will Declare a National Emergency

gun violence is a serious threat to the safety of American, I hope the next President will use his power thanks to Trump to put an end to it.

Irrelevant. American citizens and legal resident aliens have an actual right to be here and most of the shooting deaths in the US are related to gangs/drugs, which will both be greatly limited with a secure border.

We have a right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by our constitution so your apples to anvils comparison is nothing but a deflection from the discussion at hand.

You wonā€™t like how that one ends either.

during a state of emergency the Constitution doesnā€™t matter.

how is a wall going to stop gang violence in Chicago?

Well thatā€™s flatly flase on itā€™s face. You need to back off from the computer for a bit.

Man, if only some part of our government responsible for authorizing and appropriating spending had had opportunity to consider these very late-to-the-game facts and come to a considered decision on how much to spend on border security and the Presidentā€™s wall specifically. Like, say, a Congress.

If only there had been a national debate about it highlighted that had guided and indeed compelled the congressional consideration of such a thing.

And if only the President talking about exercising this option had not been completely mute about it for two years while he AND his party controlled that hypothetical appropriating governmental body.

Since most gangs recruit from native born Americans and most drugs that enter from overseas come through ports of entry, if Trump builds his wall it will have little impact either on gang activity or drug abuse. And since half of undocumented immigrants enter through overstaying visas it wonā€™t have much impact on that issue either.

But this does help secure Trumpā€™s baseā€™s support for the 2020 election ā€“ which is the emergency Trump is trying to address today.

It suspend property owners right to due process when the government take their land to build a wall.

So then you agree that the Constitution remains in tact even in the face of a National Emergency? Thatā€™s good. Because the attempt by the Executive Branch to usurp the Legislative powers of appropriations is ALSO a violation of the Constitution.

Yet you are arguing in favor of it on the one hand, and against it on the other. We get it that Trump is the only difference here. But do you at least recognize the inconsistency?

As a conservative I abhor the Executive attempt to circumvent the Constitution like this. This is exactly what the Founders were most terrified of in a single person being President, that they would try to engage in the same King-like tyranny that they had escaped. Hence the separation of powers and checks and balances.

The Legislative Branch appropriates funds, NOT the Executive Branch. And that is why this declaration will fail in the third branch of government that is also a check on this type of anti-Constitutional overreach.

Actually, suicides outnumber all other U.S. gun deaths 2 to 1, but by all means continue your rant.

Iā€™m sure you think there was a point in there somewhere. What was it?

Suicides are not ā€œgun violenceā€ unless you want to stretch the made up phrase to the breaking point.

Suicides will continue to occur with or without guns period.

Thereā€™s no usurpation of power here, he will be acting completely within the bounds of his constitutional powers and duties and within existing law.

Not without compensation and not without eminent domain.

The Constitutional Protections can only be suspended under a declaration of martial law.

And murders will continue to occur without guns, period. There just wonā€™t be nearly as many.

Thanks for the pro tip, rest of the industrialized world!

I am actually happy that Fat Donnie is going the national emergency route. Why? Because the courts are going to take what little bit of his manhood that Nancy left behind.

Negative. And this will be the position of the judiciary as well. The Executive does NOT have the power of the purse strings. There is no way to argue otherwise.

Completely false. We have no idea exactly what the tonnage is thatā€™s coming into the country around the ports.

What we do know is that effective barriers will greatly reduce the foot traffic and acts as a force multiplier.

The more control we have between the ports the more effective enforcement at the ports can be.

Letā€™s compare Juarez to El Paso.

The first is one of the most dangerous cities in N. America with a raging drug war and 1,247 murders in 2018.

El Paso had 19.

Illegal crossings along the 114mile EP Sector have dropped by over 80% since their barriers were put in place and drug seizures have been cut by half.

Walls work, thatā€™s why the BP wants them.

The three folks so far who liked it seem to have no problem discerning its meaning.

Not sure what else to add other than itā€™s helpful to know that the three Xs on a jug of moonshine mean its been distilled three times.
