Marky it’s not even worth it. If we had written notes from the prosecutors saying they were going after him because of his politics they’d still come up with something else.
I’m not aware of the specifics, but probably because the statutory punishment for whatever rules they violated called for a fine.
Violating § 30122 (the law against straw donations) is one of the worst campaign finance violations, and the statute calls for jail time as well as a fine - whereas most of the other sections only call for a fine.

He has no information that we don’t have - as in, he has no information other than what is publicly available.
And none of the publicly available information suggests that D’Souza was targeted due to his politics.

It seems like Mr. Dershowitz’s comments were made before the trial began, and before all evidence was presented.
Based on the way others with a similar or even WORSE case was or is being treated by the same office.
Why is Rosie O’Donnell not up on charges? She did FIVE TIMES what D’Souza was convicted for, and she used different names and addresses to do it, which kinda points to an intent to deceive, yet no charges. She gets to simply take back the extra money and is told to be more careful in the future.
Explain that and then tell me how justice is blind.

She set up accounts under fake names to make donations to get around the limits.
Of course, you’ll take anyone’s word as long as it lines up with what you feel.
