I know that Regan was to the right of Clinton and Obama so you are right. That was his whole point of bold colors. That the right side of the aisle needed to stop being dem light because they were afraid of losing.

Collusion was a delusion to the Barr crowd, but there were more than enough instances of foreign contacts that concerned Americans spoke up. But the fact he’s president now doesn’t mean he’s got a lock on it.

The original post gets to questions too deep to really understand. Why people believe what they believe? Why they perceive what they perceive? Why people value what they value?

Find the answers to these questions and extreme partisanship will disappear. Folks will understand, finally, that most of our perceptions, values and beliefs are not the result of objective study, but deeply personal sensibilities.

A Conflict of Visions by Thomas Sowell is a good place for understanding to begin.

But be forewarned, if will deprive you of easy condemnation of libs and cons. Not much fun and lots of inner work required.

There has been a clear bias in the Media’s reporting of Republicans going back to the Reagan era.

Some conservatives have been attacking the press since Eisenhower’s administration. Of course back then, they were a fringe group. Even Eisenhower acknowledged their existence in a letter to his brother.

Fast forward 50+ years, and now that fringe group, is the core of the Republican party.

Nixon also famously attacked the press.

I’m know this has been covered in piecemeal fashion on this forum for the last few years to be sure, but don’t remember a specific thread regarding this phenomenon. If so, my bad.

But an interaction with a co-worker today brought this back to mind, and also reminded me of other people I know who are just like him.

This is a man whom I like as well as anyone I work with (out of hundreds of people). He is kind, courteous, a very good worker, conservative, and religious. We share the same religious faith and attended the same church for a while.

Today we had some time to chat about our out of work lifestyles. The talk went to the media, and we talked mostly about the TV shows we liked to watch. He steered the discussion around to politics, saying he watched a fair amount of political programming.

Now, I am always careful about sharing any political views with acqaintances and co-workers, since I am not interested in creating any conflict unnecessarily with these people. So I simply listened.

He began by telling me that virtually all news was biased, and most of it was “fake news”. He made it clear that he watched only certain cable programs (Fox) and avoided any network news. He also told me he no longer reads the newspaper, as he no longer trusts the Associated Press. The man is convinced the mainstream media, all of it, is biased against the current Republican administration.

He’s not the only one I know like that. My BIL, who has been getting the daily paper for decades, no longer takes it because of the material in it.

These folks have willfully shut themselves off from virtually any information that conflicts with their point of view and existing biases, mainly about the president.

In sum, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised that some many on the right continue in their slavish support for Trump, et al, since they don’t allow themselves a peek outside the bubble.

Just my opinion/observation.

The media is very heavily biased against Trump. Here’s a simple question: how many Republicans, or conservatives, and I mean outright KNOWN Republicans or conservatives are regular contributes or have their own shows on Networks other than Fox news? Be honest here.

I honestly watch as much or more CBS news than Fox, not because I like it better but because my wife does and since she watches more TV than I do, most if the time it’s on channels she prefers. I also sometimes switch over to Rachel Maddow just to see her coverage of events compared to Hannitys, though to be honest here, I usually can’t stand more than about 43 consecutive seconds of her stupidity.

CBS simply us not fair in their coverage. They never report in any positive thing Trump does and they never question anything Democrats in Congress do. Not do they scrutinize Trump’s accusers. ANY accusation made by liberals is automatically true. JESSIE SMOLLETT- True… Accusations about Cavenaugh- True. Fix isn’t perfect, but they’re damn sure more honest than ANY OTHER NETWORK, which is why their ratings are so high.

I don’t expect an honest answer from you, after all, you were just expressing your opinion, which is what this forum is about…

Oh please. The federal government is riddled with far-left partisans who, apparently, don’t believe in a democratic system of governance.

There is nothing undemocratic about what is happening right now. Impeachment hasn’t even happened. And if it does, it’s expressly authorized by the constitution. It will run its constitutional course. There will be a trial in the Senate. He will most likely be acquitted (but nothing is guaranteed at this point, in my opinion.) What is undemocratic about that?

And, no, the government isn’t riddled with far-left partisans. It is riddled with competent and sane people.

Trumpers have to have a bunker mentality due to the fact that to believe in right wing conspiracies which have now have become part of Republican identity requires a suspension of disbelief.

This is exhausting on its own and it becomes necessary for the individual to live in an echo chamber in which their beliefs are validated and “fed” in order to sustain the mental strain of living in an alternate reality.

Just about every single thing we believed would happen the democrats wanted to do was exactly the result of what we thought would be the outcome or slippery slope. Our fears are well founded because they so often come true. The leftist bias in 90% of all news outlets is real, as most of them are leftists, donate & vote leftist.

Years ago we saw the democrats as going toward socialism, & they always denied it, often on these very forums. NOW look at them!

You are a democrat & to say you are a conservative is a real stretch. Of course you think we should all sit dutifully in front of leftist biased news reporters listening to them saying every day the leftist crazy: Trump is racist, collusion, Russia!, impeach, idiocy. I have news for you, being lied to & obsessively making false claims about the President daily is not news reporting. The so-called reporters aren’t, they are commentators & insane mouth-breathing how from before inauguration Trump should be impeached is not exactly impressive news reporting, it’s kooky.
