There were multiple gross security failures with the two assassination attempts. Whether the failures are through gross incompetence or deliberate actions is not relevant for employment–the responsible officials have no business working for the Secret Service.
Ironically, it may be in Trump’s best interest to pardon Routh on attempted assassination charges since it would allow state authorities to move forward with their investigation for attempted murder without interference from the FBI.
Hanlon’s Razor
Whether it is because malice or stupidity they have no business being responsible for security.
Personally I think Scott Adam has much better take than Hanlon when it comes to the government. His view is that while private individuals are presumed innocent, the government is presumed guilty unless there is adequate transparency to prove otherwise.
In the case of the two assassination attempts the Secret Service and FBI have been extremely opaque about the lack of security and the background of the alleged assassins.

The bad news is that his r&b and medical care to prolong his miserable life is being covered by the taxpayers. Maybe we’ll be lucky and he’ll slip on a bar of soap.
