Trump critical of May during visit, says Boris would make a great PM, threatens no trade deal with UK

The problem is that Trump has been pushing for a UK visit for quite some time. Wanted a full state visit, carriage ride with the Queen etc etc. Demanded that May prevent any protests from taking place.

Rejecting him entirely came with it’s own risks. Sure looks like it would have been the better option now though.

That actually makes a lot of sense. In particular Murdoch. With Bill Shine on the team no less. Interesting.

How is it playing over there? Or is too early to tell just yet?

Politically this damages her in ways she didn’t anticipate.

If there’s one thing you Brits are good at it’s etiquette and procedure. Trump is a two year old. He doesn’t have a clue what etiquette is. And procedure is beyond his understanding.

Too early I think.

Trump is already disliked here, but his supporters will like it and some of the Brexit voters too.

It’s all cuz of Khan and the blimp he approved that poked the bear…:sunglasses:

Yeah it’s why his meeting with the Queen could go down in flames too . No-one values etiquette and procedure more than her.

I’m wondering how his threats regarding trade will impact further Brexit negotiations and discussions too. Will that push you guys to be more flexible in dealing with the EU? Making it more of a soft Brexit?

It is entirely possible that this is all due to your President being a man-baby, yes.

The number of protesters might rile him a bit more though.

There is the personal responsibility we have all come to associate with Republicans.

Again, hard to say.

Giving up free trade with the EU in exchange for free trade with the US would be a massive loser for us, so i’m not sure it works too well as leverage.

It will absolutely further enflame the Brexiters though.

Trump definitely acts like a petulant child regarding insults.

He has always reacted very predictably to personal insults and to personal praise.

Unfortunately May et al kissing his ass where they can was never going to make up for the protestors and what they will say/do.

Trump might well have demanded that May crack down on all potential protestors in London, but that’s a non-starter politically.

That’s a really good point. Something I highly doubt our President grasps at all. I’m certain he is under the impression that without us the U.K. falls. :man_facepalming:
