No one made excuses as to why they brought in on themselves. The people of Puerto Rico were horribly served by the local government. I don’t blame the people for that.
I absolutely blame the local government. THEY were responsible for the mess they made of the electrical system - no one else. And it was wholly unable to stand up to one hurricane, much less two hurricanes.
Those hundreds of thousands will eventually end up with an efficient and secure electrical system, but only because the FedGov is there to make sure of it, rather than relying on the local government to screw it up, again.
But there is NO WAY to completely rebuild the grid on that island in short order. It’s been virtually like starting from scratch. The hurricanes left them in the stone age, thanks to how poorly they were served prior to them.

You see… there is a lot of truth to what you are saying.
So let’s get back to optics.
In New Orleans there was a terrible federal response. The same can be said for Puerto Rico. Both Presidents during that time seemed very hands off, doing what seemed to be the minimum required of them and in the case of Trump, picking a twitter beef with a mayor.
Trump’s actions and response to Puerto Rico made Bush’s response to Katrina seem down right awesome.
I completely disagree that there was a terrible federal response to either incident. What there was was FAR MORE need than was expected because of the terrible local governing both before and during the events.
That’s not on the FedGov. That’s on the Louisiana state and New Orleans local government and on the government of Puerto Rico - all of whom completely failed their own citizens and hid the truth of it until the storms exposed their failures.
The FedGov cannot do miracles when they are handed pure crap. They can and did do the best they could and as fast as they could.
The federal response to Texas on the other hand was seen as splendid, because Texas was actually ready for the event, as it should have been, and the FedGov didn’t have to start from ZERO.

What if McCain believed things in the dossier to be true and was the reason he gave it to the fbi to look into? I don’t think it’s fair to characterize all this as an underhanded way to start Trump’s impeachment. Trump took money from Russia when he couldn’t get loans elsewhere. Trump praises Putin and jokes about the murder of journalists. Everyone around Trump lies about their connections with Russia. Trump was trying to get a deal for a Trump Tower in Moscow while running for office and lying about it. Trump’s children and campaign manager, who owed money to russian oligarchs, took a meeting in trump tower to get dirt on Hillary. And Trump called for Russia to find Hillary’s emails and they started hacking that night. How can anyone honestly just find that all normal and not a reason to take the dossier more seriously?
If he was concerned, why didn’t he take it to Trump himself and express his concerns directly to him? The Dossier was fraudulent, bought and paid for by the Hilary campaign, pushed by foreigners, Christopher Steele, a guy fired by the Brits for his untrustworthiness, and Russians. Trump was a businessman and had business transactions with lots of countries, about 8 years prior to running for the presidency, so freakin what. About Trump Tower he could do anything as a businessman until he was elected in November of 2016, nothing illegal about that. Hillarys campaign went to the Russians to get dirt on Trump, and they actually got false dirt on Trump, who in Hilary’s campaign got put in jail by going to foreigners, Christopher Steele, or anybody in the Hillary campaign did not get put in jail. If a foreigner gives dirt on a campaign there is nothing illegal about that. But they went in to hear . If they would have heard about the dirt, and acted on the dirt, there was nothing illegal about it. Any case, all they heard about adoptions or something like that.
Trump just in joking said it would be nice if they could find the 30,000 emails that Hillary illegally destroyed, parenthetically, he was joking. Tell me when Podesta gets put in jail for the exact thing that Manafort got put in jail for. Apparently Podesta got immunity for what Manafort got put in jail for!! The stuff Manafort did had nothing to do with the Trump campaign, were crimes that would have been ignored if it wasn’t for him later working for Trump. and they tried to get him as Dershowitz said, compose to finger Trump. You think fine that nothing happened to Podesta for doing the same thing as Manafort did, and apparently he was given immunity while Manafort gets thrown in jail. The Dossier was fraudulent as noted by Christopher Steele, who could not corroborate the stuff, became the basis for this fraudulent investigation. He was quoted recently as saying this stuff can’t be verified and knew was possibly ‘deliberately false information’. But this deliberately false information is what McCain passed on to the media to destroy his enemy Trump
That’s a lot of stuff there but just from the start, why would McCain take the dossier to Trump and not the fbi? Going to Trump with the dossier is like Ned Stark going to Cersei with his discoveries.
