Trump asks Supreme Court to shield financial records from House Democrats —

Congress is authorized, apparently, to decide anything about impeachment. They can call eating a sandwich “obstruction” if they want. Fortunately, there are two houses of Congress.

But only one can impeach…

Yeah. Kind of like being arrested by a rogue cop. The court will straighten things out.

Well we should put her in bubble wrap for safe keeping.

If he did nothing wrong he has nothing to hide.

A rogue cop that arrested based on direct evidence? :joy:

If “I did 2+2=4 in my head” can be called direct evidence.

This is an attempt to conflate issues.

Trump has obstructed Congress. Overwhelmingly. This is not the same issue. But you knew that I suspect.

What, are you putting 2 and 2 together? Sorry, not enough evidence to convict.

As opposed to Republicans claiming _ + _ = 4. Yes I’ll take 2 + 2 = 4 over that any day.

However this should be very easy to resolve. Get Mulvaney, Pompey, Guliani and Perry to testify for the Republicans. This whole thing should get cleared right up. Right?

Great post!

The evidence Trump has obstructed Congress is overwhelming. More than enough to convict. But I agree he won’t be convicted because the GOP has decided to abdicate their oath of office and become full on partisan cultists.

Trump made an argument as to why he should not comply. If the House Dems so desired, they could have taken their subpoenas through the court system to enforce them. If Trump lost in the SC, and still refused to comply then yes, they could make a decent argument for obstruction.
Are you suggesting that Congress can convict for obstruction based on not complying with a subpoena that Congress has no Constitutional authority to issue?

Not really. He made an argument as to why it’s okay for the President to obstruct Congress. That doesn’t make it acceptable and it’s laughable on its face.

There is no time. Trump and his criminal enterprise are trying to deprive the American people of their right to free and fair elections. Giving him more time to finalize such an attack on us all is not an option. Again, look at where his personal attorney is today. Right now. This very minute. Working on behalf of Trump personally. There is no time to give to this abuse of power, as it is ongoing.

Nope. They have every single authority to issue the subpoenas they have issued relating to the impeachment inquiry. And yes, Congress can and should convict Trump for his massive obstruction of Congress. Again, not conflating the Mazars issue with the impeachment subpoenas.

Yup, as long as Trump didn’t use the exact phrase “quid pro quo” or “I order you to obstruct”, he’s clearly completely innocent!

Those willing to do the most elementary math, without partisan glasses, see things otherwise.

I suspect that the Senate would expect more in the way of a determination by the judicial system than a determination by an anonymous forum poster.

Like the three hyper partisan lawyers the Democrats found to tell them they were correct?

I highly doubt the partisan cultists in the GOP Senate care one bit what the courts have to say. The proof will be that they won’t seek to have any of the documents turned over or any of the direct witnesses testify, and seek the courts power of enforcement of subpoenas. They don’t care. They have decided to place their allegiance to a man instead of their sworn duty to the Constitution.

Perhaps you can point out the errors in their arguments? I look forward to your scholarly analysis.

The rest of us recognize that you don’t need Trump to shout “FOUR” to know the answer to 2+2.

The Dems wanted this fake impeachment. If they wanted a conviction they should have done a better job.
They never even expected a conviction…just hope of personal political gain.
