The design of crappy guns made with materials not up to the use?
Please. Small arms from proper materials can and have been manufactured in minimal machine shops all over the world. The government fussing over this design makes about as much difference to national security as if they fussed over the publication of a crossbow design … which, incidentally, you can also download from the web here:
… that would be far more effective as a weapon.
Incidentally, the designs for lathe and other tools also found on that site can with patience produce better quality firearms than this one.
Even without use of such tools I’ve seen pictures of a 22 made by a prisoner with a heavy duty stapler and various odds and ends and it would probably be at least as good as this plastic gun.
The reason you cite is laughable. May as well make a federal law against nibbling pop tarts into vaguely gun shaped forms. Not that I’d put such a meaningless feel good regulation past the Left…
I’d assume the smaller metal parts could be smuggled in separately, disguised as something else, and reassembled after security. I get this isn’t James Bond, so I admit I have a childish understanding of why Reagan made plastic guns illegal.
A simple smooth bore made from pipe stock would be more durable for the barrel.
… and even that should still be looked at with trepidation.
What’s absurd about this whole printed gun thing is that it may arguably be easier to threaten people with a realistic 3D printed model of a gun painted realistically than with something many people may not recognize as a gun at all. The 3D gun offers one shot of a limited caliber, it should have minimal stopping power.
About the only practical use for one would be in line with an old joke: if you were being chased by a bear you could shoot the thin athletic guy with your group in the leg and get away while the bear has dinner.
Again, how is that relevant to the discussion… Have you actually read the settlement? You will have plenty of time to argue that these do not fall under ITAR when the proposed rule change agreed to in the settlement is published… That’s the basis for the current injunction… You can’t change the rule THEN publish the rule change…
What created massive gains in the market was the fed pumping billions of dollars a year into it to keep it going. And the economy barely survived while Obama pumped billions into select corporations while allowing small businesses to sink or swim on their own.
