An immigrant from Russia has been denied citizenship and faces possible deportation from Canada based on a Russian conviction related to her criticism of Russia’s war in Ukraine:
[Trudeau’s] administration has blocked the citizenship of Maria Kartasheva because she has a conviction in Russia. The crime? Free speech. Kartasheva was convicted in Russia for criticizing the war in Ukraine. She was literally pulled out of a citizenship ceremony by Canadian officials and now fears deportation and incarceration in Russia . . .Notably, the charge was based on two blog posts that Kartasheva wrote and published in Canada . . .
The Canadian government informed Kartasheva that her conviction in Russia aligns with a Criminal Code offense in Canada relating to false information.
That’s right. Canada is concerned because it also has criminalized speech and Kartasheva has used free speech to spread what her government considered false or misleading information.
Is Trudeau a Putin pawn?
Or is Putin just serving as an example for the West’s authoritarians such as those running Canada?
On the other hand, what does it mean when the Canadian government agreed that the Russian law that was the basis of her conviction alines with the new Canadian law that restricts free speech?
According to a December letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the crime she committed in Russia “would equate to false information under subsection 372(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.”
Will Kartasheva face prosecution in Canada if she criticizes the Canadian government’s war efforts using disputed information that contradicts official Canadian narratives?
Addressing the title of this thread, when it comes to free speech, the Canadian government led by Trudeau is out of control. They have really crossed the line. Here’s a journalist asking one of their leaders some questions while she’s walking. A police officer purposefully places himself in the pathway. Is barely bumped and then arrests the journalist for assaulting a police officer. THIS IS THE WEAPONIZATION OF GOVERNMENT!
Something similar happened recently in front of the US Capitol.
A woman who was silently standing with a sign was grabbed by police in a public area in front of the US Capitol. Ironically, the incident occurred while Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin was warning about the dangers of an “authoritarian or fascist political party . . .”
The suppression of free speech in Canada is coming with the full support and encouragement of the US government.
