Matt Gaetz of Fla introduced a bill to eliminate ATF.
For those that have long memories…I’ve been advocating eliminating ATF since I arrived at Hannityland.

I do not know enough about a) why they should exist or b) why they should be eliminated.

Duplicative of the FBI and United States Marshals. At the very least, it could be subsumed as a task force within the FBI.

Sounds like some have issues with ATF. Sometimes they are good when doing their job.
Guess I will not be getting many Christmas cards next year.
Regardless of what happens with the ATF, the laws they enforce will remain. So quite likely, if the Agency is disbanded, most of those laid off ATF Agents will just become FBI Agents in the new Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Division.

Yes the agents and the job will continue no matter what type of milk carton they are in. The labs will provide the same expertise and the agents will be working under a new banner.
The defund enforcement squad will pick another target to hate. I would rather disband the IRS and look at a fair alternative.

The problem is ATF is writing laws. Also FBI needs to have their funds cut in half…at least.
As for defunding the police…I predate defunding ATF about 4 decades before defunding the police movement.

Imagine you are a person with MS that likes to use a firearm for hunting or sports shooting.
The ATF now wants to put certain firearms and their owners on a watch list, and you would be on there not because you are a threat to society, but because you have MS.
How would you feel about the AFT if that was you?

Duplicate administrative levels and they’re writing laws as they go alone.
