The city of Seattle is name after Chief Seattle (c. 1786 to 1866). Here is what a history from the University of Washington says about him:
. . .he owned slaves, always a sign of wealth and status.
The same source also mentions that his people practiced “ritual murder of slaves” during his leadership, although he acted to end the practice. The federal government eventually forced Chief Seattle to free his slaves.
Not only is the city named after Chief Seattle, his statue has a place of honor at Seattle University:
The name questions pose an interesting dilemma for the uber-woke in a city named after a slave owner. Should they destroy the statue while they are at it?
Of course getting rid of any historical references to slave owners would require a name change for the State of Washington and Washington, District of Columbia as well.
Sure. And while at it, the Governor of Rhode Island is considering changing the official name of “Rhode Island and Providence Plantations” to just Rhode Island. This is based on the fact that some supporters of the ruling party in Rhode Island are too ignorant to realize that the word “plantation” is not exclusive to meaning a large farm worked by slaves. Whether the Governor is actually that stupid or just playing to the idiocracy base is not clear from the article.
I could be in Seattle in 20/25 minutes or so depending on stop light getting to freeway…but I haven’t been in that ■■■■ hole since 2007…back before I left to build a house outside of Cleveland.
Libs can have it…just shut down floating bridges and 2 main bridges to the north.
