Have you seen the announcement from Toyota and Tesla about their new hydrogen system. You can fill up on water and their only emission is water vapor. “Win win” for both environmentalists and car enthusiasts. Brought to you buy the free market instead of being forced down your throat by govt and the fools who back their force.
In the past people thought cars that would run on hydrogen were going to have tanks that stored hydrogen and you would head to the H2 gas station to fill it up. The problem with that system coming up with a cheap way to store hydrogen gas under immense pressure.
The way the new system works is much better because hydrogen is produced by the car. The breakthrough was a very fast way to dissociate water into hydrogen gas and oxygen. Then you burn the hydrogen the cars produces. No need for large high pressure tanks in the car or hydrogen filling stations.
Even better is this system uses the basically the same combustion engine we’ve used with great success for over a 100 years. So no need to retrain mechanics. No need to strip mine for lithium. So let’s hope it’s the future. If the technology works as advertised it can be used to produce electricity for cities also, so no need for the industrial blight and eco disaster of windmills and solar panels.
The biggest obstacle this technology will face is interference from those who planned to get rich off the govt impose EV’s system. Their plans for perpetual riches from EV mandates are now in danger.
I’m sure the swamp will try to save their plans for making you their EV serf, and attack the new technology with the equivalent of the fake russian collusion accusations they made against Trump.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)— part of the US Department of Energy— is collaborating with vehicle OEM Toyota to demonstrate hydrogen fuel cells’ ability to deliver power in an integrated energy system.
Through a cooperative research and development agreement, the organisations will build, install, and evaluate a 1MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system at NREL’s Flatirons Campus in the US.
That’s cool. Right now my biggest hangup on EVs is the short range and the Lord of the Flies vibe around public charging stations. Hydrogen checks a lot of boxes.
Except that’s not the hydrogen system the new car uses. You don’t need this stuff

One that uses hydrogen from electrolysis in a piston to combust, the other that uses it to run through a fuel cell to create electricity for an electric motor.
No one needed subsidies to invent the original automobile, or the phone, or the refrigerator, or the record player etc or to put up gas stations. Govt research is a mostly boondoggles. Largely because the people handing out the money have no clue about science. It’s all about politics and lunches!

Did I miss something in the video? We already have hydrogen cars that fill up (at an absurd cost) at hydrogen refueling stations. What’s going to be different about this new car?
I’m assuming the combustion route would get it from natural gas or something. Since water in a combustion engine is a big no no. Not compressible and causes hydrolock and busted engines.
Well the second solution actively extracts hydrogen from water on the fly. Instead of needing to be pressurized like nuts and stored in a complicated fueling system. Storage is the holdup with hydrogen otherwise we would have been using it for a 100 years. But it sounds like the problem is almost solved.
that would be incorrect. I linked it in another thread. I believe its Toyota’s engine that uses some new tech electrolysis to separate the water into HY and OX then burns the HY in a combustion engine.
So instead of the current refueling stations that pump hydrogen in your vehicle, this will be different? You’ll just have to dump some water in your car, and the new system will somehow replace the refueling station? I’m a bit skeptical.
