When we see Chinese troops guarding the canal, which isn’t going to happen, then they might have that type of power. But not today. They couldn’t project power to do that anymore than project power into Venezuela.

It seems like some people are treating this as a spur-of-the-moment extraction of Maduro.
The planning was ongoing for a LONG time. We even built mock-ups of buildings that Special Forces would be entering so that they knew precisely where to go. We knew where all the anti-aircraft installations were, and took them out right before the operation. A lot of planning an intel and detail went into this thing.
And now I’m all the more grateful that Congress wasn’t notified of the plans. There would have been plenty of time for something to get leaked.

Russia is not going to run any operations on an island that houses a critical component of BMEWS.
