The rise of Trump and the corresponding death of the conservative movement

The question becomes, can conservatism (in the Goldwater, Jon Huntsman, William F. Buckley embodiment of the term) ever make a comeback? The only way I see that happening is after the zeitgeist moves away from rabid partisanship, anti-intellectualism, and populism. For now, we’re a Trumpist country (and I mean that in terms of a mindset that crosses ideological lines).

Allegations were made. Mueller was hired to investigate those allegations. He did so.

That’s neither conservative nor liberal. That is being given a job to do and doing it. It is no more liberal or conservative than you or I waking up tomorrow morning and performing the tasks that our superiors give us to perform.

The lack of bipartisanship between Obama and Congressional Republicans was a big reason for Tump getting elected. (Another big reason for the rise of Trump and him getting elected was his celebrity status.) Bipartisanship was much more common back during the Reagan and Clinton years.

I’m inclined to agree. The enthusiasm with which many who identify as conservatives abandoned their principles and values and adopted liberal mindsets and methods in the name of #winning is testament to this. All they needed was someone to give them a little push, and Donald provided a shove.

His ideas aren’t necessarily “liberal” either. Much of his idiotic ■■■■■■■■ like building walls and summer affairs with autocrats and lowering taxes while increasing spending and foreign policy via Twitter have no political affiliation, they’re just stupid. He’s stupid.

Buckley is consider to be one of pipers of Neoconservatism. Someone that is as smart and knowledgeable as yourself should have known that.
