Unfortunately I can’t argue this. A decent number of people in this country if they were alive in 1945 would want President Truman tried as a war criminal.
Maybe I am too much of an optimist but it if need be, I would like to see them operate without the handcuffs that were placed on them way before I was born.

And @DisturbedGuy was partially correct. Operation Enduring Freedom was one of the most successful military operations in history.
He claimed we “won the war”, but failed at nation-building. Incorrect in that Enduring Freedom was not the war, it was an operation in the war.
And you have to win at nation-building as well. Look at Germany, Japan and El Salvador. I think the trick here is to know when to declare victory with the nation-building.
But if you notice, it seems each round takes more and costs more. The US is getting less efficient.
The US military is currently in a state of complete disarray. Wrong people+Wrong process=Bad product.
The US military has lost all sense of purpose.
That is a leadership failure.
When people say Trump can give a two hour interview it’s because of things like this.

A great military requires engagement at every level.
Engagement requires three things:
During OEF and OIF, they had that. Some of the decision special units were making hadn’t been made by NCOs for a long time. Initiative shown.
Mistakes were no doubt made. Learn the lesson and move on.
There was an A-10 pilot who refused an order to RTB and abandon troops in contact. He stayed and saved. He was discharged.
What message does that send?
