The Late Show is being Canceled by CBS, Next season to be the last season

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is being canceled after the next season. Apparently a financial decision, with CBS denying that the content of the show has anything to do with the decision to end the show after 30+ years.

CBS cancels ‘The Late Show,’ Stephen Colbert to end program in May 2026

some other political BS show will just take his place. The host will probably cry even more than Jimmy Kimmel.

I am trying to figure out how financials can be separated from content in a TV show.

Well, if the content doesn’t attract enough viewership (or chases it away) then the financials of the show fail.

That is how I thought financials on entertainment was generated also. You need to attract eyeballs tuning in to watch in order to generate advertising revenue.

It’s simple math.

Content of the show (Colbert) is lacking → people tune out → advertisers are unhappy and pull ads → financial problems.

And with no heir-apparent host to rescue the show, cancelation is their safest (financially) bet.

I’m shocked that ABC is still on the air. Jimmy Kimmel is just the tip of the iceberg of their crappy programming.

These shows are the canary in the coal mine for networks.

I don’t believe that contents of his show had nothing to do with cancelation.
Basic rule in any bussiness is don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
He got axed right after he let his mouth run loose.
Next stop for dudes like him is MSNBC…the grave yard for losers.
Maybe he’ll join the View and I’d like the name change to Six Losers at The Same Table.

The content of his show does have something to do with viewership though, and viewership has a lot to do with revenue from advertisers. If people don’t watch, advertisers don’t buy airtime for ads.

Hardly a loser- hosted The Colbert Report for 9 years then another 10 years hosting on CBS.

His satire is actually funny and yes he did make just as much fun of Biden as he did Trump (even though he is definitely not a Republican). In fact he was one of the first to say Biden should step down after his first debate.

Him and John Stewart are by far the funniest satirists on the air today.

I never watched it or any late-night show. I’m in bed by 8:30 pm.

Or maybe a podcast…maybe the democrats will try and prop him up as the anti-Rogan they have been searching for. Except, instead of interesting interviews hell just spit out stale insults while a canned laughter reel runs in the background…same format as now, different media.

Late show is Colbert, not Kimmel.

For political junkies, not normal people.

um, yes, i’m aware

the point is the replacement will be some other self-absorbed whiny lefty beta doing all the things the patriarch of tonight shows said not to do

they think they were given a megaphone from god to hate on trump/republicans just because people tune in. typical left

There was a time when he was decently entertaining. He moved away from that a long time ago.

Greg Gutfeld will have fun with this.
