The future of public schools

Such as?

What have I dismissed? One room School would work, for a small population.

There are fewer than 400 one-room schools in the United States today, down from 190,000 in 1919. The majority of these schools are located in isolated Western towns, and over 75% are in California, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

If a kids parents don’t value education at all, can you really expect a kid raised in that environment to do any better?

I’m confident my kid will value education because both me and his mother highly value it. I’m a nerd who constantly reads and she’s a special education teacher.

Tells me many things…but mostly my fellow liberal/progressives are enjoying a beautiful Sunday…in the real world.

It would work…small school at every block or two. Make em compete against one another.

Not liberal.

Yup…that is the biggest factor. i was raised by parents that did not finish High School. They both worked hard, and did well, Dad working as a operator engineer. Later they owned their own business. They grew up in the 30’s and 40’s. where a college education was not as attainable for most. And they did not push it on me or my 2 siblings…none of us went to college. I did 2 years at a community college in my 20’s. A few credits shy of an AA.

I know that feeling to an extent. I went to college for 6 years total but I can’t prove it on paper.

Completely failed at the latter. Give them the former.

The government does not ā€œprovide.ā€ It redistributes.

Question: On what basis should children of low resource families have the same educational opportunities (or healthcare for that matter) as those who come from high resouce families.

Where did this idea come from?

She’s not my wife yet lol. Working on getting there.

And yeah that’s what she always wanted to do. At first she graduated with a degree in social work and then worked for child protective services. Then decided to expand her degree and get her license for teaching special needs.

She’s very much a humanitarian.

Cool. My wife also works with with special needs kids as a paraprofessional.

ā€œParaprofessionalā€ what?

Is your google broke?
Paraprofessionals are important members of a school’s staff. They’re sometimes called instructional aides or teacher assistants. Paraprofessionals provide different kinds of support that help make classrooms more inclusive.

"Paraprofessional’ means ā€œalmost professionalā€ and can be applied to any profession.

More accurately beside or next to a professional.

Such as? How does a teacher’s aid make a classroom more ā€œinclusive.ā€

Code words…
