We sent him to a brutal prison, admitted we shouldn’t have done so, and now are refusing to do anything and pretending we didn’t make a mistake by repeating an unverified story that he was MS-13.
But you may ease the cognitive dissonance in your mind any way you wish, I suppose.
Mistakenly sent a dangerous person to El Salvador. Just because you don’t believe he is dangerous is of no consequence.
SCOTUS didn’t say the administration was to effectuate his release. SCOTUS stated that the judiciary doesn’t have the power to dictate foreign policy. They did say the administration was to facilitate his release. El Salvador has made it clear there will be no release. That ends the discussion.
Addressing the topsy turvy way the president governs isn’t TDS. It’s like criticizing the President for trying to stay in power after an election isn’t TDS
It is pretty simple actually, the rational thing to do in a case like this is get him back, admit the error and move on. But it won’t happen. Why?
If we bring this fellow back, who is not a gang member, has American children and an American Wife and is in an apprenticeship for metal work, then any other person who doesn’t deserve to be there might be brought back as well. And this, to the administration, opens the proverbial floodgates. Because there are certainly others who are in CECOT who should not be, and if they were given due process would have never been deported or imprisoned.
They want to maintain the loss of due process, and the only way to do it is to never fix mistakes which can be a result.
But everyone in this country, no matter their legal status, is entitled to due process by the Constitution. It is literally in there, in black and white. And for some reason, some on the Right are just fine and dandy with this. What could go wrong?
I never thought I would see the day that some on the Right would literally forego their Constitutional rights and ignore the separate but equal divisions in Government and allow the Executive to ignore the SCOTUS. This is tantamount to raising the Executive to absolute power with no fear of consequence.
We are on a path to autocracy, and if Trump truly embraces it I no longer have faith that some on the Right will even care. I can’t think of anything more Unconstitutional than what we are seeing now, but folks like you are simply going to rationalize and parse.
They made a mistake, and now the Leader of the Free World, who thinks he can bend leaders to his will regarding trade and fashions himself a “dealmaker” is utterly powerless before the sovereign might of El Salvador to do anything to rectify that mistake.
Trump: “I’m a dealmaker”
Bukele: “I can’t let Garcia go”
Trump: “Oh well, I tried”.
Meh, I think he would hold him for free since Trump is already asking him to build 5 more CECOTs. Not just for illegals either, he is postulating sending American citizens there. And not a single Trumper cares how monstrous and unconstitutional that is.
Literally sums up much of what today’s Democrat Party has become. The facts are that Dems don’t give a rats ass what these people do to America and American citizens.
