Supreme Court rules in Janus labor union case

No one said anything about being scared, or a proletariat uprising. Just stating the facts. But you know that.

Socialism is inextricably linked to State control.

Find me one modern union that advocates that.

Big issues for my union the last few years have been a minimum of 8 hrs rest between shifts.

Fair promotions based on merit instead of good ole boys club.

Increasing staffing as we are currently down about 20% from just a few years ago even though our workload has increased by as much. This ties into why the rest issue is such a big deal since we are being forced into mandatory overtime so much.

Weā€™d all love more pay and better benefits but those havenā€™t been our primary concerns either.

It has been building for a whileā€¦ I work in making TV and Moviesā€¦ but there is a growing consensus that working back to back 16 hour days for 70ish hours a week is no way to live.

The various Locals have to be willing to present a unified front on this so the production companies canā€™t play regions off of each other for a race to the bottom like they have in the past.

I know. Which is why they were required to pay something. Itā€™s a circular argument. If they want to be free from the union, they should be, in full.

No. Just maybe rule, rightfully so, protectionist laws.

Unconstitutional.

The union leader would not want to relinquish their control. But they would happily take a job with the state where they can have even more control.

Yeahā€¦ going to have to call ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  on that one.

Finally they got it right. Good decision.

They shouldnā€™t.

Itā€™s a shame that people who claim to be for the forgotten man, and blue collar america are cheering the demise of the same.

I agree. But you know, how else can we subvert the institutions that fight for blue collar americans if we donā€™t pass legislation that undermines their effectiveness?

Could it be that Unions have just outlived their usefulness? In their heyday Unions represented about 30-35% of the workforce, they now represent about 10% of the workforce. Iā€™ll admit Iā€™m probably biased in this regard as my experience with unions over the years has not left me enamored of their practices or attitudes.

If they donā€™t want to pay union dues they shouldnā€™t get union benefits.

Pretty darn close to outliving their usefulness. The place I used to work voted on a union once and we turned it down 75 percent to 25 percent.

We had better pay than unions and better benefits so why on earth would we want a union?

Sure would be nice if the OP could edit that link, eh?

True enough in you case maybe, but other employees are not lucky enough to work for a reasonable boss.

Some employers are selfish jerks, and it becomes almost obligatory for their employees to unionize. At least two of my former bosses comes to mind.

Of course not.

But over time the laws have been crafted to undermine the unions and give the advantage to management. this is another example of that.

Well, maybe. But the fact that wages for blue collar americans are more or less stuck, and things like health care costs and costs of living continue to rise, and meanwhile, US corporations are more profitable than ever, I would suggest they are still needed.
