Why? The union could take the Obamacare route that they helped pass. Double or triple what the paying folks are charged to cover the cost of those that can’t or won’t pay. What’s wrong with that? Or why not make it free for everyone? Free college. Free healthcare. Why not free union dues? It’s the socialist way!
“In the following decades, former SP (Socialist Party) members rose to top positions in their unions and, sometimes, in the broader labor movement. These include Walter Reuther (president, United Auto Workers and president, CIO; vice-president, AFL-CIO); his brother Victor (international director, UAW); and Sidney Hillman (president, Amalgamated Clothing Workers and vice-president, CIO). Later, prominent members of the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee, a predecessor to DSA, included Jerry Wurf (president, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) and William Winpisinger (president, International Association of Machinists). As leaders of major industrial unions, they often had a significant role in Democratic Party politics, meeting with U.S. presidents and promoting important social legislation.
maybe if unions actually spent all their money on representing the employees instead of representing their favorite politician, this ruling would have never been required. But you people dont know when to stop pushing your agenda. So now you gotta eat it. Pull my finger.
I’m all for not requiring workers to pay union dues if they choose not to join. Supreme Court got it right in my opinion. I do believe however the workers who do opt out should not benefit from union negotiations. Seems simple enough to me.
Unions are Capitalistic. They are a counterweight for labor during contract negotiations.
I know that it somehow feels good to think that they are ideology factories for people carrying around little red books… but nothing could be further from the truth.
