Supreme Court 5/31/22 - (No decisions or per curiams, one order list and one interesting miscellaneous order)

No decisions or per curiams were released this morning.

Today’s order list.

One miscellaneous order of interest.

Three Texas lawmakers will have to go ahead and submit to depositions in a Voting Rights Act lawsuit.

Four scheduled decision days remaining, Monday, June 6, 13, 20, 27.

Undoubtably, more days will be added.

The oldest case and the only remaining case from the November sitting is:

New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, No. 20-843 [Arg: 11.3.2021 Trans./Aud.]

Issue(s): Whether the state of New York’s denial of petitioners’ applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment.

32 other cases also remain to be decided.

Do you have any thoughts regarding the delay?

Are they just proceeding as normal, or do you think there is something else going on?

I am kind of surprised that nothing came out this morning.

Maybe just nothing was ready, but with the very large number of cases pending, seems highly unusual to completely skip a scheduled opinion day.

Do you think the recent shootings or the leaked draft might be forcing rewrites?

I extremely seriously doubt that.

Alito is not going to tone down his abortion draft.

And as I am fairly certain that Thomas has the gun case, I doubt he will tone his decision down either.

Okay. Thanks.
