SpaceX Finally turns a profit (and WOW it has a lot of satellites)

SpaceX is a private company, which means you can’t buy stock in it and it does not always make its financial statements available to the public.

But apparently it has now turned a tiny profit. Yay!

From WSJ:

SpaceX’s soaring revenue helped it eke out a small profit in the first three months of the year after two annual losses, according to documents that offer a rare view into the financials of Elon Musk’s rocket company.

The company generated $55 million in profit on $1.5 billion in revenue during the first quarter of 2023

They also have a lot more satellites than I realized.

Often I see people post “alien” stuff in the sky – a string of lights all in a row, traveling in the same direction.

Those are starlink launches, putting up the next batch of satellites. They start out traveling in a row, but eventually they each position themselves to their designated locations.

Website claims its real time (not planned.)

I didn’t count the dots but according to space.com

Gonna need a traffic cop up there soon.

Actually, one of the operations in the underground caverns of Cheyenne Mountain is the tracking of every known object orbiting the earth. That’s been in effect for decades. Even things as small as a lost wrench from a space walk.

I toured it (at least what they showed to the tourist public) back in the 1990s. Two of my nephews were in the group. One asked, “What is that console for? …” and the tour guide said, “If I tell you, I have to kill you.”

His brother started shouting, “Tell him! Tell him!”

Good times.

Well, as long as we get all the good spots before the Chinese and Indians do.

Vanguard 1 and its upper stage have been in space since March 17, 1958. 65 years and still going, though communications were lost in 1964. Oldest man made objects still in orbit.

Expected to finally deorbit and burn up circa 2198.

Interestingly, Vanguards 1, 2 & 3 are still providing data, in that the degradation of their orbits are being monitored and giving clues as to the effect of solar drag and other factors.

Starlink is only 20 bucks less than what I’m paying for 72Mbps DSL speeds, and with this service, I get a phone with unlimited long distance to the US, Canada, and Mexico.

It’s much faster than what I have, but I’m not quite ready to give up my landline yet, seeing as I’d have to buy 600 bucks worth of equipment.

They’re close to getting my business though. Very damn close.

I would also, belatedly, note that they are investing heavily in Starship, which easily explains the lack of profit.

However, their ability to launch on demand should provide a very reliable revenue stream and keep their company fiscally healthy.

It will be the first satellite array infiltrated by Skynet.

the Democrat Secret Police Force (DOJ) is now after Musk…

Sorry, but in such a sensitive area, it’s just common sense to be extra discerning when it comes to foreign applicants.

I suspect its not they are being discerning but to state they can only hire US Citizens or green card holders is wrong and potentially illegal. Asylees and refugees can work. Their documentation will show they are either an Asylee or refugee. i only found it out because I googled it.

This is an Onion article, right?

The DOJ is nothing like the Gestapo. Why would you even want to make such a comparison?

True,
they are (these days) more like Joe McCarthy’s Government Operations Committee, or the House Unamerican Affairs committee . . . hunting down political enemies under the false guise of pursuing criminals.

Worst IMO.

of course but to the beady red eyed angry left this is nothing but pure rrrrrrracism

there’s no bottom to these bastards

Musk companies are starting to hold a reputation around racial discrimination. First Tesla, now SpaceX.
