As a few of you remember, I walked away from this site many months ago because it stopped being a free speech forum. The censorship was getting out of control. I returned to see if it had improved. It seemed to. Then once again, I was suspended for “contempt of mod.” Missing was any explanation of what I said that was contemptuous. The offending quote was not given so I still don’t know what it was. In fact, I flat out told the mod that I have no contempt for him. I simply believed he was wrong. Because he was. That happens sometimes. If we are not allowed to disagree with people, including mods, this is definitely not a free speech forum. It might as well be run by David Muir.
It is not now, nor has it ever been, a “free speech forum.” The rules aren’t hard to follow.
Which rule are you referring to? I’m still trying to figure that out. The rules aren’t hard to explain. If someone showed me exactly how a rule was violated, that would be awesome. Wanna help?
It should at least be as free as Sean’s show or Fox in general. Agreed?
Contempt of mod is the same thing as contempt of the court in a legal system. If the mod lays down an instruction to be followed by a poster in line with the TOS (something we all agreed to when we registered) then if you refuse it you are in contempt. It’s that simple.
Its a great illustration why complete freedom of speech is dangerous. Without a framework of rules and limitations this place would be toxic.
No, it should be as free as the mods want it to be. That’s how virtually all internet forums work.
Correct. I ask again. What rule was not followed? It’s that simple.
No. You are virtually incorrect. When they are put in charge they are not supposed to make up their own rules. They are hired to enforce the current rules. There is no requirement to agree with mods. That is not a rule.
This was more of a contempt of member than a contempt of mod.
Exactly. Soooo I would love to know the egregious violation of the rule I commited. So far there’s silence. An exact quote would be really helpful. Agree?
I think you would have better luck with a polite PM. I think there is a reason they called this thread Community Feedback and not Talk to the Moderator. But I could be wrong.
Whether or not it holds on this board, I would consider bad-mouthing of the mods or bad-mouthing of their decisions (bad-mouthing on the public portion of the board, not in an individual PM to someone) to be contempt of mods too.
It was neither rude nor polite. The rules do not say anything about sucking up to mods.
Sure. And Mods shouldn’t bad mouth or make assumptions about posters either. We deserve equal respect. So when an assumption is made and then disputed, the mods need to respect the fact that there is no requirement that we agree that they are correct. The rules do not require this. We’re not married to the mods.
Sure. Quote it.
I wish I could. I don’t have the quote. He wouldn’t tell me what it was.
Just ask in a PM.
the mods need to respect the fact that there is no requirement that we agree that they are correct.
Actually, (regardless of what board I might be on), I accept the mod/admin position, whether or not I like it. “My-House-My-Rules” is the way I see it. If I don’t like the rules, I just go to some other house. It doesn’t mean I don’t challenge the ruling if I disagree. But I would do it via PM, not airing it in public. And my challenge is usually in the form of wanting to understand the thinking, not necessarily to change the mods’ thinking. Understanding (which isn’t necessarily agreeing with) the position let’s me decide if I want to continue participating under those parameters.
Just ask in a PM.
Yup. And I’ll bet the mods have already seen this and are just waiting for that PM. I know if I were a mod here, I wouldn’t want to air it in front of the peanut gallery.
I read through your posts in this thread and have yet to figure out where you are going with this. 99.99% of forum members seem to have no problem following forum rules. You seem to be one of those rare outliers.
Since this likely won’t end well for you, I’m wondering if it might once again be time for you to walk away, and this time maybe not return.
Contempt of mods is challenging/questioning the mods in public. when you do that you’re putting mods into a position that they most rather not be in. It’s best to do it on PM.
Doing, questioning mod in public will only make their jobs worst as we have/had members that would twist their words around and use that against them in public.
So my advice don’t put em into a position where they have to take action.
