Might see this get changed at some point in the near future.
Although it is not a federal holiday under US law, the Biden Administration has formally recognized Indigenous Peoples Day.[5][6][7][8] The first White House proclamation on the holiday was released in 2021, written with input from indigenous activists.[30][31][32]

I would get rid of ALL of them, as well as all official State holidays.
Federal employees get 30 vacation days a year. They certainly don’t need 11 additional days. And most State employees get generous vacation time.
As for private employees, in lieu of these holidays existing, I would replace with 10 floating holidays a year, which could be taken at the joint discretion of the employer and employee.
Depends on your years of service as far as how much annual leave you earn per year.
Even at my highest accrual rate (8 hours a pay period) I did not earn 30 days a year. The most you can carry over is 240 hours (30 days) but it takes a long time to get there earning your base 4 hours a pay period as full time until you reach 15+ years and accrue the full 8 hours a pay period.
Although I agree with you, I’m all for holidays. Make Halloween a holiday, and I’ll be happy. Besides #3, they’re all holidays for me. Who doesn’t like days off and or extra pay?
What about Black Friday and Easter Monday? Those are also holidays for some people. I’m certainly not going to complain.
I’m a state employee and it takes 10 years to get 4 weeks. Then 1 day every year after that. So I had to work 20 years to get 6 weeks.
I get 11 weeks total counting personal and sick days, and 16 or 17 holidays. Even if I got all of those holidays off, which I don’t, I’d still be in work 72% of the weekdays.
All industrialized nations except the USA have minimum paid time off requirements. Though there are a number of states who have legislation around PTO. My state is not one of them, as usual they are 100 years behind.
I am fortunate that my employer has a generous Paid time off policy. But I know many of my family members and friends work for employers that provide very limited paid time off or none at all.
Every single study shows employees that have a good work life balance are more productive and better employees.
I was only addressing the claim federal employees get 30 days off. They don’t.
Try working for a school district. We can only carry over 3 personal days a year. We do get about 9 weeks off in summer, but even then we are going and doing things and getting rooms figured out. At least I do and a few others.
It would be nice to have more time off, but logistically that just doesn’t work.
