Sailor disgraces herself and the United States Navy

Due to both the word in the link itself and the uncensored f-word that would display in the link preview, I had to censor the link.

First of all, this is not about Trump. Substitute Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama or Biden (assuming he takes office) and the offense is equally revolting.

This is entirely about disgracing not only yourself as an individual Sailor, but disgracing the United States Navy.

Sarah J. Dudrey is an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Second Class (Petty Officer Second Class) (E-5 paygrade). So she has clearly been in the Navy long enough to know better.

Dudrey stopped her car illegally (blocking a lane of traffic), to confront a pro-Trump rally. She said " ■■■■ Trump", gave the middle finger and proceeded to scream in people’s face. All while wearing the uniform of the United States Navy.

The Hatch Act prohibits politic activity by Federal Employees and even if she was off duty, she was wearing the uniform, so she would be in formal violation of the Hatch Act.

10 U.S. Code § 934 - Art. 134. General article

Though not specifically mentioned in this chapter, all disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, all conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, and crimes and offenses not capital, of which persons subject to this chapter may be guilty, shall be taken cognizance of by a general, special, or summary court-martial, according to the nature and degree of the offense, and shall be punished at the discretion of that court. As used in the preceding sentence, the term “crimes and offenses not capital” includes any conduct engaged in outside the United States, as defined in section 5 of title 18, that would constitute a crime or offense not capital if the conduct had been engaged in within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, as defined in section 7 of title 18.

Her conduct falls under Article 134 of the UCMJ, bringing discredit upon the armed forces.

The Navy is investigating this incident.

I think a just punishment would be reduction from E-5 to E-3 (Seaman), forfeiture of a portion of her pay and allowances, restriction to quarters and extra duty for a specified period, followed by administrative separation from the service under other than honorable conditions. I would not call for a punitive discharge, as her conduct, while poor, does not rise to that justifying a Bad Conduct Discharge.

All of this could have been avoided had she simply gone home and changed into civilian clothes before going all hysterical.

And again, this is not about Trump, this is solely about Sarah J. Dudrey.

She must not have heard her fellow Trump haters but here’s a reminder. Now let any laws she broke, prescribe her fate…cuz…“no one is above the law”. :sunglasses:

Seems harsh to me. Restriction, fine, busting to E-4 and that’s harsh to me. I’ve seen guys get drunk in uniform and do some pretty silly crap and not get into too much trouble.

Bet she had a stellar career prior to that.

Although I wholeheartedly agree with her Trump is at the top of her chain of command and some type of punishment is in order. This is no different than if she said it about an admiral.

At least a navy career. Height and weight standards must have changed.

BIG time.

They don’t walk the plank or hang 'em from the yard arm any more?

AB’s (Aviation Boatswain Mates) are not known for their meek demeanor.

I know a lot of ladies who are not meek.

Interestingly, being busted just one grade down to E-4 could trigger her separation from service under the high end tenure rule if she is over 10 years of service.

You could still get bread and water when I was in, though.

I saw the video.

I think she had some kind of a breakdown. It happens. There are times that will try the best of us.

Things have changed then. I remember seeing a third class with gold service stripes. It stuck in my mind because…

I was the best PFC in the Army. Twice.

I just saw the video…yikes, she’s going to be in pretty big trouble.

Too bad. AB is one of the most dangerous jobs in the Navy.

Why?

They handle planes and equipment on the flight deck of carriers. That is a super dangerous environment.

It’s something like second dangerous after SEALs.
