nothing the eu did meritted more than taking a tough negotiating stance. nato was a non factor. russia could prevent them joining indefinitely just by holding crimea.
Of course NATO expanded. In the end, we won. Who doesn’t want to join the winning side?

i’m not even a fan of the eu. i see them as a future threat to us. the day will come when we will leave nato because of the eu.
