All he had to do was try. He didn’t even try. If he had allowed what they wanted to come to the floor, have the fight, win or lose, at least he would have tried. It’s defeatist to not at least try. You never know if you will win or not.
DougBH:I agree that a congressman who supported destroying the electoral college is not the best choice for speaker, as a Republican.
But you don’t get to take control of a party and it’s direction just because you collect eight people willing to hold their breath till they get their way.
All you do is stir up problems like we have now and hurt your party. That is true and it proves that they don’t know how to chose their battles.
Plus they didn’t use leverage to accomplish much when they had all 3 branches in their control.
Now they are acting up when they are sitting on very shacky grounds,
that’s immature and they are poor strategists.
Tho…there is nothing wrong ith WHAT they are trying to accomplish.
Stop wasting money, America better and first…all good goals.
The RINO’s don’t want to change or accomplish anything. They like the big spending, they are making money from it the same as the democrats. Uniparty.
You never know if you will win or not.
Actually, they most often do.
And in an image-conscious political arena, the optics of a loss are sometimes hard to shake.
Now, don’t get me wrong here. I’m not endorsing politics of image. I’m just commenting on how important it is to a lot of political creatures.
Smyrna:The Rs that voted against Jordan have IMO ended their political careers and is what I’d label…a kamikaze vote.
25 of them?
Not a very big percentage of the 219 the gop has.
Already lost 3 times. How do you know McCarthy isn’t listening to his constituency?
McCarthy took what 15 votes to get in?
I was talking about Gaetz and his flame throwers.
I should have made it clearer.

Who is a Congressman who supported destroying Electoral College, please?
That would be Emmer. He supported the compact that states would give their electors to the candidate who got the most votes nationwide. That undermines the purpose and effect of the use of electors.

What’s the gop advantage over the dems?

Back to back failures. How many did it take for McCarthy to get out?

Actually when they got to vote in secret 112 voted against Jordan.
Samm:The headline is misleading.
Misleading in more ways than one.
Emmer is not a “Soros supporter” by a long shot. He just happened to contribute to an organization that Soros also happened to contribute to.
Beyond that, Emmer has absolutely zero relationship with Soros.
Emmer detests anyone who supports making America great again. He is part of our GLOBAL GOVERNANCE CROWD and slippery as a snake.
I was talking about Gaetz and his flame throwers.
I should have made it clearer.
Better a flamethrower who fights for us than the squishy go along to get along big spenders helping democrats ruin us all.
I like Gaetz and the other actual conservatives.
Emmer’s worse than Kevin McWorthless.
The GOP AGAIN doesn’t care what the base wants or thinks.
If he’s the speaker I’m done with the GOP and I’m not alone:

What’s wrong with this guy?
The implosion of the pugs due to their sheer incompetence is the gift that keeps on giving.
And the clown show continues. If Republicans cannot get behind Emmer then not sure how they move forward.
Yes I would like to see Dems support Emmer but totally understand how attractive it is for Dems to let Republicans continue to ■■■■ this up.
These pst few weeks and even the election of McCarthy to Speaker show how a party needs to do a lot more to ensure they dont just squeak through with a tiny majority.
Also illustrates just how fractured the Republicans are. Not sure the dems can capitalize on this in 2024 because of the length of time between now and election season. Would have been much better from a dem perspective for this to be happening in 2024.
The GOP AGAIN doesn’t care what the base wants or thinks.
You’re not the base. Your like 25% of the party.
