Resurfacing: The White House is currently working on ways to EXCLUDE illegal aliens from the US census, per Stephen Miller (WH Dep Chief of Staff)

That’s easy enough, lock them up.

congress is already directing the census.

they codified the census in 1954.

Allan

free as in not slave.

Allan

And?
Does that mean the 1954 direction are permanent and my never be touched or amended?

Are laws from 1955 also part of the Consitution? What about laws from 1956? What makes 1954 laws so special that the constituion makes them permanent and ever-lasting?

I’m speaking more towards appropriating government funding, whether federal/state/local, based on population. If you have, for example, 20,000 people in a community, appropriated funding should be based on that actual number. The proper number of, for example, police, fire, or rescue should be based on the actual number of people there.

I am less sure how that works.
I believe those funds are dispersed at a state level so
yeah red states that have a lot of foreigners (Florida and Texas?) could lose money. which of course is one more reason to ship them to Matha’s Vineyard and Maine and the Hamptons.

congress can do what they want but free persons residing in the united states must be counted.

otherwise its unconstitutional.

Allan

If we decitizenize them, we don’t have to count them.

It will be poorly done, and fraught with mistakes like usual. Accurately confirming citizenship requires a diligence this administration has not shown yet.

Actually the word the corut usies is “inhabiting” (not residing)
it it has ruled several times in the past such things as:

  • inhabitting includes – a man from Chicago who temporarily lives overseas inhbit chicago.
  • inhabitting does not include visiting Chicago, such as a being a criminal from elsewhere hiding there, being a foreign visitor etc..

Basically it make a pretty good case that green card holders who are in the process of becoming citizens probably have to be counted.

Indeed. They should not be in the country at all.

Everything this administration is doing is to achieve some short-term victory over their perceived enemies without any consideration for long-term consequences.

Immigration policies are all about long term consequences. You just disagree with their perception of those consequences.

Long Term consequences:
According to Grok, using BLS data there are 41 million low-end employees working in the US.

If 10% of them (4 million criminals) are deported, numerous studies show wages for low-end employees will rise nearly 30%.

Nannies will make 30% more.
Guys who work for lawcare companies will make 30% more.
Delivery drivers will make 30% more.
Guys who work for power-washing companies will make 30% more.
McDonalds And Walmart will need to pay 30% more to keep their employees from mvong into tohose jobs.

  • WHO is not considering the long-term consequences?
  • I believe the Libs, so sick with TDS that THEY are not considering the long term consequences.

This administration. Specifically to immigration, their approach through ICE, through DHS, through their interpretation of due-process will have long-term ramifications in the courts and in public-opinion. It’s a act-first, think-second approach this administration is known for. But globally, handing over so much power to the executive is the most short-sighted thing the GOP could be doing. Do they not realize a Dem president will be elected again and they will have these same powers? It’s short term gains without thought of long-term consequences.

but they are, deal with reality, not a MAGA fever dream.

Allan

Something Democrats might have considered when they opened the border on day one, when the passed DACA with a pen and a phone, when they abused the TPS system thinking they had created a faite accompli.

That reality is being dealt with as we speak. The budget bill just passed the senate with more money for ICE and immigration judges.

and temporary passes.

Allan

That much is true.

This is also true:

  • Joe Biden made sweeping unprecedented use of Executive Orders
  • The GOP (rightfully) objected
  • Donald Trump, upon getting elected, started doing it eve worse.

The Constitution gives the power to Congress (not to the president) to change the method of taking the census. If I were the Dems I would challenge this attempt on those grounds and I woudld expect to win.
