Republican wins TN special election

Van Epps wins this special election. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, you can’t ever draw sweeping conclusions on off year elections. Any other thoughts?

Yep nearly 4m dollars spent by the gop on a a local election and so far an 8 point lead in a district that Trump carried by 22

But suburbs voted republican. That’s a good sign for the gop

Trump won Tennessee by 22 points last year.

He won that district by 22. Tennessee by 28

Trump won this district by 22%. Behn cut that margin by 13%. That’s a big shift away from the GOP.

Or just a lower GOP turn out to vote.

I haven’t looked at the data yet to see how it compares.

About 182,000 people voted this time and over 322,000 in the same district 13 months ago.

The GOP didn’t turn out like they should and dems turned out in droves because they irrationally hate Trump.

Still gonna be about a 10 pt win for Van Epps.

The Nut can go back to hating Nashville, country music, ICE, and police officers in general.

That explains the difference for sure. Thank you for posting that

So about 40% fewer voters overall. We already know that the Progressive voters are at a fever dreams level of excitement.

The nearly triple gop spend (compared to the dnc) is not the best of signs.

But also suburbs voted red. Not good for the Dems

The Republican won by 21% in 2024.

They are saying that turnout was nearly double then. In a red state. Which means that number could have been much higher if the turnout matched.

Neither did any of your comrades apparently.

Not likely, the progressive voters were plenty motivated in 24, more of them still came out and voted again, than stayed home, this time. They are the angry side of the electorate, and anger is usually a pretty good motive to show up..

I am saying that the republican would have won by a lot more had more people shown up in that district today

I agree with that, and it isn’t really a surprise in Tennessee.

I suspected Dems weren’t going to win every single election in every state going forward and am proven right yet again.

I’m not certain we should read it that favorably. Trump was a known quantity with all the benefits that would otherwise fall to an incumbent. In this case there was no incumbent benefit.

To be honest I find the result disappointing.
