US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley stepped down from her position Tuesday morning, with Axios reporting President Trump has officially accepted her letter of resignation.

According to Axios, “President Trump has accepted Nikki Haley’s resignation as UN Ambassador, according to two sources briefed on their conversation. The timing of her departure is still unclear.”

Haley -the former Governor of South Carolina- was instrumental in advancing President Trump’s agenda at the United Nations; emphasizing North Korea, Iranian sanctions, the US withdrawal from the Human Rights Council, and more.

"Like my colleagues in the Cabinet and on the National Security Council, I have very open access to the president. He does not shut out his advisers, and he does not demand that everyone agree with him. I can talk to him most any time, and I frequently do,” said Haley just months ago.

“President Trump‘s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki R. Haley, has resigned, leaving the White House with one less moderate Republican voice on his cabinet’s foreign policy team,” writes the New York Times.
