Putin Peace Talks

What was embarrassing about Helsinki was the Democrat’s public response to it.

whatever ‘deal’ Trump offered Putin, it will only get better six months from now as Russian extends the buffer zone into Ukraine territory that’s why the negotiations tomorrow were waived and everyone is going back home, there is no there there.

If anyone knows anything about rigging elections, it’s Putin.

That said, Trump is a total puppy for those kinds of claims because it validates his worldview.

i am not anti obama or a birther.

One thing he didn’t do for sure is say to Putin:
" Just hang in there…I’ll have more flexibility after the election…".

Fox posted 10 “striking” things from the meeting that Trump said in his hard hitting interview with Hannity.

I don’t know which is my favorite.

“No deal unit there is a deal” is pretty good.

His claims that Putin came all way to Alaska to tell him the 2020 election was rigged and he never would have invaded Ukraine if Trump was in office are very good, too.

“I think the meeting was a 10 in the sense that we got along great.” is obviously an amazing breakthrough for peace as well.

It’s clearly only a matter of time before the Nobel peace prize is awarded for such an amazing display of peace making.

What does Putin really gain from ending the war now?

Not as much as he gains continuing it if we aren’t helping Ukraine. Which is what he got. Trump got played.

This was nothing but Putin ensuring Trump’s plan to put sanctions on Russia and punish those who are helping them did not happen. Trump fell for it.

Putin knew what buttons to press when it comes to Trump.

If you validate his world view in any kind of way, he’s generally very friendly with your position. Considering what has come out about the meeting (Putin claiming that 2020 was basically stolen from him) he knew how to butter him up.

That’s why I was opposed to this the whole time, despite my personal views being that you should always talk to an opponent at any time. Putin just knows how to play the game too well.

sorry, don’t buy that. I don’t believe for a second that that swayed Trump. He doesn’t want to put sanctions on Russia and didn’t want to from the start. His turn toward Ukraine was window dressing because the politics of it forced him there. He was always going to pivot back and Putin asking for this meeting gave him the opportunity.

The last President feared what would happen if Ukraine actually won

This President fears what will happen if Russia doesn’t win.

I honestly believe Trump believes that if Putin is forced to anything other than victory in Ukraine he will go nuclear. So he’s trying to find a victory for Putin thats less than total. Problem is, Russia’s demands have not changed, if anything, they’re demanding more.

  1. The world must recognize Russia’s claims over eastern and southern Ukraine: Not going to happen
  2. Ukraine must demilitarize and the west must not support it: Not going to happen
  3. Ukraine must fall into Russia’s sphere of influence: Not going to happen
  4. Ukraine must recognize Russian sovereignty over eastern and southern Ukraine: Not going to happen
  5. All sanctions must be lifted: Not going to happen
  6. Ukraine must withdraw from land Russia can’t take, and will never be able to take: Not going to happen

None of these demands can or will be met.

Obama was nominated just 11 days after taking officee when he hadn’t done a damn thing to deserve it.

Clearly political.

the brainwashed world was so giddy over him they went nuts (even moreso)

They sure did and then Obama went on to be divisive and an agitator rather than a peacemaker.

Look at the riots he stirred in this country.

same as SK, he believes talking nice will get him further. And in some ways, it does. It just won’t get him the deals he wants. SK is not going to denuclearize, and Putin is not going to settle for less than he thinks he can achieve without a deal. Force is the only thing that will work. His instinct to let Ukraine arm itself to the teeth is what needs to happen, but he keeps backing away from it trying to get that deal and cement himself in place as the greatest peacemaker of all time. He likes to say "peace through strength, but he’s unwilling or too scared to actually show the strength.

What he should do now is show Putin his ploy did not work and move forward with the sanctions and tariffs, and also make sure Ukraine can get whatever it needs. Only then is there a chance for peace.

I agree with your last paragraph. Care to bet something that Trump won’t do any of those things?

I wonder…when do we start the 24 hour clock?

Unless it started yesterday, in which case he’s only got a couple hours left
