Reaganomics, the gutting of the unions, etc… strongly, strongly benefits the top 1%.
I do agree with you for like the top 10% - they need a strong middle class to continue to thrive. But not the top 1%.
And that Reagan et al acted intentional? Look no further than the largest tax cut, followed by the largest tax increase to date - what did that tax hike do? It shifted the tax burden to the middle and lower level earners by targeting regressive taxes.
if he over shot on the tax cut, why not just walk back some of those cuts? Why shift the burden to the middle and below? Because the point was to weaken the middle class and allow the top 1% to further climb.

It was the blueprint to undue the New Deal, and to fight perceived socialism, by getting businesses more involved in politics.
And it has worked quite well. It may not have been Reagan’s goal…but it has damn near achieved it.
