Predictions for the next four years of a second Trump Presidency

That is correct. Claims for asylum are supposed to be made at official points of entry, not on the north bank of the Rio Grande or the southern desert of Arizona and New Mexico.

I think he was talking more along the lines of you don’t leave Venzuela, go through culumbia, panama, cost rica, nicaragua, honduras, guatemala and mexico and then ask for asylum when you get to oklahoma

They can. They should. But they should not sneak across our boarder and then cry “asylum!”

Our laws do not allow asylum for economic reason. The vast majority of illegal immigration is purely about economics and standard of living, NOT because of racial, religious, or political persecution by their government.

That is why, even under Biden, more than 70% of asylum claims are rejected.

because thats not seeking asylum, its shopping

Yes, if they enter through an official entry point and file their request for asylum there. But legally, they are supposed to wait outside the country until their request is favorably ruled on unless they have a sponsor here to stay with and vouch for them.

That’s what we wait for to find out. Putin is looking for an end to this too. Negotiation with Trump may just be his out.

I’m not sure what you mean. Trump has made it very clear that he stands behind the SCOTUS state’s rights ruling.

I agree. The Biden Administration is and has been taking a very lenient stance.

Yes. That too.

Never said it does.

“Persecution by their government” is not a requirement for asylum.

It’s selecting the country you feel the safest in. If it’s Mexico then great!

I want to see reinstatement of that as a top-10 initiative at the start of Trump’s presidency.

You are right. Strike those words from my statement. The rest of it is accurate.

All good. It is an important distinction however. That basically makes asylum claims a bit more wide open. Why can’t Congress just change the law to say “by their government”? That would solve a lot.

What an utter bunch of ■■■■■■■■■ By that warped logic then if 2-3 billion people were to decide that America is the country they feel safest in then well what choice would we have but to allow them all in.

None of this is rocket science, it’s only people like @PurpnGold, @biggestal99, and others who believe in open borders believe it’s vital for the US to adjudicate everyone in the world who wishes to present their asylum claim here. The rest of us completely understand that as practiced today asylum is a joke:

NATO doesn’t have an issue with America when they need something from us. Lets see what trump does in his four years. I hope his attitude with NATO is the same as it was in his first term
