Nothing short term. I think there has been a long term issues.
However i think American re descovered love for isolationism is def playing a part.
Would pope be an upgrade over American president? You get a legion of over a billion dedicated followers but you lose your nuclear arsenal. Hmm… hard choice.

All I know is that if I was pope I’d invest some of that “large” church money into a small Air Force. I’d buy a small fleet of F-18s and MiG-29s. You mess with my Catholics, you get some smart bombs dumped on you.
Then I would get immediately impeached as pope because while I am not Catholic, I don’t think dropping smart bombs on people is approved in the Catholic doctrine.
The guy is an Augustinian. August zodiac is Leo. His birthday is the 14th (of September) so getting to be a 14th Leo sealed the deal.

For the record, Prevost was not high on oddsmakers’ lists. Second-tier, at best, though usually mentioned in potential lists.
But he was effectively Pope Francis’ HR head for picking new bishops, and was deeply connected throughout Roman Catholic hierarchy.
Apparently he’s not one who gets pushed around, so he may create sparks, or he may forge powerful bonds with world leaders. Should be interesting.
He’s one of the younger candidates, so we might have him for decades.
