Whether left or right, (and whether the discussion participants are left or right), the fact that the discussion (here and elsewhere) leaps to political motive and tribalism and “sides” reflects poorly on our society. And, I contend, in some ways and to some degree it contributes to the problem.

I think that comes down to how the right and left both view property at its core.
The right (the inheritors of classical liberalism) see property and property rights as absolutely sacrosanct. It’s almost religious how it’s viewed.
The left, meanwhile, being the modern inheritors of progressivism and socialism, see property and the entire idea of private property as a tool to oppress the masses.
Thus people of a conservative bent are much less likely to damage property in pursuit of a goal and see it as morally detestable. While a true leftist doesn’t view it the same way.
I’m more or less in the middle about it these days.

After the judge ordered Balmer held without bail, he spoke with Mr. Whitener for several minutes. He declined to answers questions before he was driven away by a state trooper.
His lawyer must be frustrated the insanity defense is getting pummeled by his client. It’s his best move now.
