One and only Kavenaugh Hearings Thread (part 1)

She donated a whopping $80.50, signed a petition/letter and decided to take the next logical step of lying about a sexual assault – all to get back at trump. Makes total sense.

It matters because it raises the question of motive. Whether there is some reason other than personal for providing this story. Whether there is a political motive for remembering this the way she remembered it.
And there is also the credibility factor as to the coincidence of her telling the story the way she does and just coincidentally she happens to be someone who is highly politically motivated to wanting Kavanaugh not be on the Supreme Court.
Not personally motivated to keep Kavanaugh of the court, but politically motivated to keep Kavanaugh off the court.

There are those who say she doesn’t have a motive. The motive appears political.

Then her lawyer sends a letter verbatim to what Kamala Harris says, and then says no interview. LOL We still dont even know who gave her the test, or who paid for it. Either put up or shut up! People are tired of Hearsay leading to Special Counsels and FBI Investigations.

liberals dont believe in motive, they believe hearsay is enough to destroy anyones life.

If she would have to lie to Congress to keep the story going, wouldn’t she also have to lie to the FBI if there were an FBI investigation?

This has only been a political ploy to delay the confirmation. Demanding an FBI investigation is the best (and only) political game the Dem party can play at this point. Christine Ford is letting herself be a tool for the Dem party.

This is what should happen…follow the tract that George HW Bush followed after the Anita Hill Allegations. Put it to rest one way or another.

As Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyers insist the FBI investigate her claims of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh, here is a look back at how the FBI investigation into Anita Hill’s sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas came about.

  • Clarence Thomas underwent his initial hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee in early September 1991.
  • Anita Hill says she spoke with the Judiciary Committee in “early September,” and that an FBI investigation was suggested to her on Sept. 20, 1991 .
  • On Sept. 23, 1991 , allegations of harassment were brought to the attention of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which immediately informed the White House, according to a statement from then-deputy press secretary Judy Smith.
  • Upon learning of the allegations , the White House “promptly directed the FBI to conduct a full, thorough and expeditious investigation,” according to the statement.
  • Three days later, on Sept. 26, 1991 , the FBI completed its investigation, and a report was submitted to the White House and the Judiciary Committee. The White House deemed the allegations “unfounded.”
  • On Oct. 6, 1991 , Nina Totenberg of NPR obtained a copy of the FBI report and reported on the allegations, the first time the public became aware of the story.
  • On Oct. 11, 1991, Hill begins her testimony during Thomas’ Senate confirmation hearing.

The President can order the FBI to investigate at the request of the Senate, as happened with Anita Hill. The FBI has jurisdiction over whatever the President says the FBI has jurisdiction over. At this time in the Trump presidency this should be obvious - he’s in charge of it.

He is to petty to allow the FBI to investigate

Exactly Correct!!

Fine. If it took a week to do an investigation then I would be all for it. But what on earth evidence could there be after 36 years other than to talk to the parties, and that’s what the committee is intending to do. It would be redundant.

Anita Hill alleged her abuse took place in the Federal Government. It made sense for the FBI to investigate. It makes no sense for the FBI to get involved in a high school party that happened 36 years ago.

The fact that DEMs can’t see the absurdity of the request simply demonstrates just how out of touch with reality they are. They are desperate.

They aren’t out of touch…just desperate.

Not to mention off the rails as well.

Anita Hill’s alleged abuse took place in the federal government within the prior 10 years. The FBI had jurisdiction.

The current allegations took place at a high school party 36 years ago. The FBI has no jurisdiction. It is absurd to pretend there is a parallel between the two incidents.

Clarence Thomas/ Anita Hill took 3 days. What’s the harm in three days?

It makes sense in that the FBI is responsible for back ground checks on SCOTUS nominees. Do it…and then the controversy is over. Unless they are afraid it’s true.

The parallel is that they were both nominees for SCOTUS…and the FBI was ordered to complete the background check…or could be ordered to investigate this currently.

They’ve done 6 background checks on Kavanaugh over the years. He has been fully vetted.

Did those checks look into this specific allegation? If not, he hasn’t been “fully vetted.”

You are correct that the President could order the incident be investigated. But he won’t, because it would be unprecedented .
