I think Oklahoma’s medical debt bill–the first I’ve seen from a Republican state–is an indicator of future policy trends.
Governments are going to make medical debt more difficult to recover. Eventually, even red states will start buying the debts directly from the hospitals. The time between treatment and government purchase will get smaller until you basically have single-payer.
