Unlike some Western European countries Many American jails aren’t designed for rehabilitation. Moreover, when it comes to youthful offenders the same problem that they face on the street they face in jail. That’s why a one size fits all against “young thugs” is so wrong.
So thousands or tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise is stolen, no prosecutions. Only after thousands or tens of thousands of dollars MORE of merchandise is stolen will the process actually start?
“About 3.57 million people left New York City this year between Jan. 1 and Dec. 7, according to Unacast, which analyzed anonymized cell phone location data. Some 3.5 million people earning lower average incomes moved into the city during that same period, the report showed.”
Why do people care now though? Riker’s has been easily the worst city jail in America since like 80s to the point that the nickname for the high power block (“the bing”) is now universal slang for any city/county jail.
This just isn’t going to work. If the dudes I grew up knew that the only thing they would ever get charged for is “serious” violence, it would’ve have been total bedlam. The DA is playing right into the NYPD’s hands as well.bending broke windows and stop and frisk is one thing.
Between Eric Adams and this dude y’all in trouble.
Honestly, what is up with the DA? Like New York County has always had the best DAs in the country for like a hundred years. Tom Dewey, Frank Hogan, Robert Morgenthau, Cyrus Vance wasn’t quite up to their level but not far off. And now you have this ■■■■■■■ guy, which is crazy because he has about as extensive a resume as the rest.
The opinion is that the NYPD gave up doing their job in 2020 anyway.
When they didn’t have the support of the public to crack skulls during protests, they got all sad about it and said ■■■■ it and do less than they were doing to begin with.
They all need to be dealt with. Not prosecuting shop lifting leads to mass looting of stores. Mass looting of stores (or sustained uncontrolled shop lifting) results in commerce leaving those areas. And that is going to be pretty much the equivalent of the liberals scary red lining, isn’t it?
To be honest. It’s weird and it’s not clear as to what is actually happening. It’s important to note that the DAs in the boroughs where most of the crime happens ie Brooklyn and Bronx aren’t following this model.
