The new policy is:

• Armed robbers who use guns or other deadly weapons to stick up stores and other businesses will be prosecuted only for petty larceny, a misdemeanor, provided no victims were seriously injured and there’s no “genuine risk of physical harm” to anyone. Armed robbery, a class B felony, would typically be punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison, while petty larceny subjects offenders to up to 364 days in jail and a $1,000 fine

• Burglars who steal from residential storage areas, parts of homes that aren’t “accessible to a living area” and businesses located in mixed-use buildings will be prosecuted for a low-level class D felony that only covers break-ins instead of for more serious crimes. Up to 364 days in jail and $1000 fine for armed robbery?? Oh my gosh! That place will resemble Blade Runner by 2030. After my last visit to Philly, in 2019, I decided to write off all major metro areas. This type of insanity confirms my decision. I feel so bad for the law-abiding people in these ■■■■ holes.

What if studies showed that for first time offenders 5+ years of incarceration was setting up the offender for greater chances of recidivism, more difficulty reintegrating in society, more broken homes, and a greater cost to the tax payers vs diversion and a fine?

Cash bail is a bad idea. Bail should be based on the chances of the offender to offend again, not how much money they have access to.
