I’d lay a fair amount of the blame on Newt Gingrich who worked to demonize fellow Americans for holding a different political ideology from him. And the amplification of this demonization by talk radio only furthered the division and convinced millions and millions of Americans to believe their true enemy was their fellow countrymen.
