When I was younger my favorite thing to do was attend air shows. My Dad was on the planning committee for the last two years before his retirement. It took 1 year to plan for a 3 day air show. They would essentially start planning for the next year air show a few days after the current one ended.

That was cool to see.
BTW American history is taught in schools its a core part of social studies. The standards are set by state departments and states can decide which areas of history to focus on. Its impossible to do a detailed teaching of US history in the relatively few years of schooling children get.
