NFIB Survey: Small Business Optimism Reaches Lowest Level Since 2012, Hiring plans drop to 2016 levels

Neither 2012 nor 2016 were recession years.
Nope we are not in a recession, not even based on these numbers.
(Whew. Good thing I am not saying we are.)

But the direction is certainly of some concern.
One has to wonder if small business owners know something or if they have all been fooled by my posts here on the Hannity forum. They seem to think there is cause for come concern.

Joking aside, The negative view of the economy is not limited to right wing whack-jobs and the under-educated masses.

Small business owners are a pretty savvy group, and they employ 47.5% of the workforce (vs 16.7% government and 35.8% big business.)

“Less than optimistic” or “All time low optimism since 2012” is a pretty mainstream view.

Report also states (emphasis mine)

  • A net negative 10% of all owners (seasonally adjusted) reported higher nominal sales in the past three months, up three points from February.

  • The net percent of owners expecting higher real sales volumes declined eight points to a net negative 18% (seasonally adjusted).

Sales volume: negative.
Sales outlook: also negative.
