New York City depends on tax revenue from Wall Street firms and their highly paid employees. Things could get ugly if they leave the city as a result of Mamdani as mayor.
The only part I’d disagree with was the part about being ready for NYC to be like San Francisco. Have you been to NYC lately? I was there September of last year. Manhattan close to midnight on the eve of a holiday. It didn’t even look like this country. I think I even saw a rickshaw. A nightmarish experience. NYC is San Fran if not worse.
Once in a blue moon? I used to go to NYC on the regular. I lived in north Jersey. In the past two decades, yes, once in a blue moon. But what I saw last September felt like I was in Shanghai. The complete opposite of great. A cesspool.
Seriously. Like communities around the country NYC has had problems in recent years…
But even at its worst in those years, NYC is still one of the greatest places on earth. Food, arts, culture, sports, entertainment, shopping, people from every corner of the planet living and working together. It’s the absolute best of America.
I grew up in a city, then lived in the suburbs. I am not used to a cesspool. A mass of humanity at a crawl with every form of transportation possible. I felt like I was in a different country. Zero chance I ever go back to that dump that is Manhattan. They won’t miss me, and I’ll be really happy I don’t see them again. It was like not being able to move with a ton of trash around you. But after circling the bowl, we managed to get to safety. The only negative, they were never flushed.
Food deserts are geographic areas, often low-income, where residents have limited access to affordable and nutritious food, particularly fresh fruits and vegetables. These areas typically lack supermarkets or large grocery stores and residents rely on smaller stores with limited selection or higher prices. This lack of access can lead to poor diets, increased risk of diet-related diseases
