Recent polling out of Iowa shows former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in a statistical dead heat just months before voters head to the polls for the 2020 primary season.

“Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are locked in a tie in Iowa atop the large field of Democrats running for the presidential nomination. An Iowa Starting Line/Change Research Poll of 615 likely Democratic caucus-goers that was conducted this past week, May 15 to May 19, found both Biden and Sanders garnering 24% among the Democratic candidates. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 3.9%,” reports the Iowa Starting Line.

“Three contenders trailed the leaders with healthy percentages of support: Pete Buttigieg at 14%, Elizabeth Warren at 12%, and Kamala Harris at 10%. Beto O’Rourke came in at 5%, while Amy Klobuchar and Andrew Yang both had 2%. Everyone else polled at 1% or less,” add the survey.

The poll comes as Biden and President Trump toured Pennsylvania; with both campaigns acknowledging the significance the swing-state will play in a head-to-head presidential showdown.

“Like iron filings to a magnet, both will be drawn in the coming days to Pennsylvania, which was key to Trump’s victory in 2016 and would be central to almost any scenario for a Democratic victory in the 2020 presidential campaign,” reports the Los Angeles Times.

“Their trips — Biden on Saturday, Trump on Monday — elevate an emerging rivalry that has them locked in a wrestler’s grip long before Democrats even choose a nominee,” adds the article.

The President will speak with supporters at a rally in the central part of Pennsylvania, with Biden holding an event in the Democratic-stronghold of Philadelphia.

“If I’m going to be able to beat Donald Trump in 2020, it’s going to happen here,” said Biden in Pennsylvania shortly after announcing his run for the White House.
