More dumb laws from NJ

From the state that banned single use plastic bags, which people use anyway. We now have this.

Why are they trying to pass a bill they can’t enforce? I understand certain parts of the state have a black bear issue, but not everywhere. If this goes statewide, I will completely ignore it. I am not taking in a bird feeder every night for no reason. Never going to happen. People that have issues learn from their mistakes. No need for a blanket law.

IMO there will be next to zero compliance with this law if it’s passed. Let people handle their own unique situation. LOL, no seeds below your bird feeder, are you kidding me?

So it’s illegal to feed birds, but illegals wandering the state robbing, raping and murdering. No problem.

“Either you stop feeding those birds or we will send you to gulags comrades.”

Hey, they aren’t allowed to eat out of bird feeders either pal.

Speaking of birdfeeders

I ground feed my local songbirds.
A measured cup of birdseed daily as I drink my morning coffee.

This time of year here in NJ
the finches (pictured on top) are moving in and the sparrows (pictured on bottom) are moving out.

Have trouble seeing the difference?
yeah so does everyone. But they can be identified by their behaviors.

  • Sparrows are flocking birds who don’t mind hiding on the ground.
Throw some bird seed on the ground and 20 of them will flyover at once from their hiding place beneath a nearby parked car.

  • Finches pair off in couples.
Throw some bird seed on the ground and and one will fly down from a tree,
then two, then one , then two.

The finches are here. It’s spring!

I grew up in north NJ and sparrows were everywhere. Where I am not in central Jersey, I don’t see any of them. Or the finch for that matter.

One of the most bizarre bird situations I’ve had was when I lived in Basking Ridge NJ in my later teens, early 20s. As we played a wiffle ball tournament crows would circle our field. All of them standing on fences and trees waiting for us to finish. We always left them our scraps. They were like spectators for the game!!!

“I’m not feeding birds, I’m feeding squirrels,”

I will have you know that
Cape May Point, NJ is the #1 hawk spotting point on earth and nothing else even comes close. (Fall migration.)

The way I look at it, I’m not feeding sparrows and finches.
I increasing thee food supply for migratory hawks!

Hawks are great. For a bird, they have the best scream. It sounds like a war cry. I have them yelling above my house in the summer.
