Not if it was Steve Scalise, who was the natural choice for Speaker. Again, that doesn’t mean I’m going to support what he does but he is perfectly qualified to be Speaker. He has the experience, the leadership, the fundraising and the connections.

Well things worked out just perfectly. In fact the republicans look good. Personally, I never liked McCarthy but I didn’t think we had enough majority to kick him out. However, by the end the whole process made the reps look orderly and principled.
I was not sure if we picked a good guy, but when I saw this exchange with Mayorkis, and Johnson explained why the founder did not have an exemption for false speech in the first amendment, I was very happy.
I also hear and hope he’s going back to the right way to pass a budget. Voting on parts of it instead of just passing a giant omnibus spending bills like we’ve had for years now…
