Mid Bedfordshire (UK Parliament constituency)

This should have Tories ■■■■■■■■ their pants tonight.

HOLEY ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■

It is literally impossible to overstate the disaster that has befallen the Conservatives and that is coming for their necks on January 28th, 2025.

Conservatives gained this constituency in 1931 and have held it ever since.

Until tonight.

In the general election of 2019, Conservatives carried this constituency with 59.8% of the vote with a 38.1% majority.

And tonight???

A 28.6% shift AWAY from the Tories.

There has literally never been a political party more ■■■■■■ than what the Tories are going into 2025.

Would not be too early for Sir Keir Rodney Starmer to engage an interior designer in regards to #10 Downing Street.

I was listening to the results tonight and agree this is a complete disaster for the tories.

No one predicted the shift of this size and to he honest many thought the tories could hold it. But just like that Labour toppled 90 years of a tory safe seat.

Then again Nadine Dorries pissed away the Conservatives credibility with her reality tv antics etc and sycophantic support of Bojo.

Then she got all upset and said she was going to resign when she never got the peerage she was promised.

Another reason why abolishing the House of Lords should be day 1 material for Labour.

Along with abolishing any new creation of peerages of any kind (other than those associated with the royal family).

Is it just me or is British political climate way more fickle than ours - at least of late ?

Well, I think it is a product of just how horrible the Conservatives have been the last several years.

BTW, Labour also took Tamworth from the Tories, with a 25.6% swing away from the Tories.

Right, but didn’t Labor lose in an unexpected landslide not long ago as well ? is it just always “throw the bums out” ?

This is actually a feature, not a bug of parliamentary governance.

Because the ruling party bears the responsibility, they bear the full brunt when things go wrong.

In a Presidential system, on the other hand, where frequently no party has full power, parties can deflect away by saying that so and so other party controls this body, therefore it wasn’t OUR fault.

After watching our recent ■■■■■ a parliamentary system is looking better by the day.

Ok for us commoners on this side of the pond.

Care to explain ■■■ you are going all gaga about??
Lol

A very conservative area of the UK voted for the libz.

Like somebody else said, bloody fickle that lot.

the tories are predicted to lose about 200 seats from the 365 they now have.

The really odd thing is the policies that have led the Torries to where they are, were related to the COVID response and decidedly not what anyone here would consider “conservative”.

Beyond that, going from 38% of the vote to 31% isn’t all that bad considering they never had a majority in the first place. No-one ever does in their system.

Because a sure way to get the tribalism you claim to hate out of politics is to vote for the tribe instead of the person to represent you?

The Telegraph
“Terrorist attack in UK linked to Gaza”
I wonder if this will change anything in UK in the near future.

Ha yup. In Britain I think it’s a little more common to throw up your hands and vote other party but as I understand it this is still pretty shocking.

It was fun listening to the Tory MPs who were making the rounds yesterday acting as if the by election results were no big deal.
