Embattled Virginia Governor Ralph Northam unveiled his plans Tuesday to launch a statewide “listening tour” about race relations; refusing to step-down after he admitted wearing offensive “blackface” make-up during a college costume party.

“The 59-year-old governor — who admitted in an interview this week that he has only just realized why blackface is ‘so offensive’ – also wants to share what he has learned from his own experiences,” writes the New York Post.

Northam’s plan to remain in office could include increasing the budgets for the region’s historically Black Colleges and the potential removal of Confederate statues across the state.

The Governor’s decision comes as Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax faces increased scrutiny following a second allegation of sexual misconduct.
